Our Camp

Here are just a few of the things that you will see in our camp.

Gun Drill - Firing the cannon is carefully demonstrated by the gun crew. Each command and movement is explained for visitors.

Camp Life - The Battery's authentic camp gives visitors an opportunity to see how the soldiers lived between battles.

Military artifacts - Many of the soldier’s tools and accessories are displayed and interpreted for visitors.

Women’s History - Women played very active roles during the Civil War; they filled jobs vacated by soldiers, opened Sanitary Fairs, cooked, sewed, protested and supported the war effort in a variety of ways. Some even put on the uniform of their nation!

The "Mess" - Many units employed cooks to provide meals -- and they ate well! From soups and stews to fried chicken and apple pies, it’s cooking in the camp "kitchen".

Suds Row - The laundress was the only woman in camp to be authorized by the Army. Visitors can try their hand on the scrub board and talk with the laundress.

Children's Time - Children's toys and activities are included in camp life. Learn about a game called "Graces" or "Jacob's Ladder".
